Kauai Regional ITS Architecture Element Expanded Functional Requirements: Kauai Police Field Equipment Functional Area: Roadway Speed Monitoring and Warning The field element shall include sensors to detect vehicle speeds, under traffic or maintenance center control. If the speed detected by vehicle speed sensors is determined to be excessive, the field element shall provide a safe speed advisory to passing drivers via a driver information system (such as portable messages signs, field to vehicle communications to in-vehicle signing systems, etc.). The field element shall base speed advisories to passing drivers on environmental conditions. The field element shall monitor notify an enforcement agency when a speed violation is detected. The field element shall return operational status for the vehicle speed sensors to the controlling traffic or maintenance center; including measured speeds, warning messages displayed, and violation records. The Hawaiian language uses two diacritical markings. The 'okina is a glottal stop; and the kahako is a macron. The State of Hawaii strongly encourages the use of Hawaiian diacritical markings. The National ITS Architecture tool, Turbo Architecture, does not allow for the Hawaiian diacritical markings to be input and as such, customized service package diagrams, operational concepts and other outputs from Turbo are unable to reflect the diacritical markings. To ensure consistency in this ITS Architecture website, no Hawaiian diacritical markings will be used.
